A picture taken in public land must be rights free !
The right to practise our job includes, of course, the right to reproduce. These days, well known people obtained huge compensations for being photographed without due cause. Some tried their luck with our cards. A specific commission was created in order to handle the requests and our lawyer, Maître Ducrey, defended sucesfully our trade. March 2000 and then January 2005 leaflets reviewed complaints and sentences pronounced. Their distribution to lawyers and courts allowed everyone to have an inventory of the legal precedents concerned. The Picture Observatory ("L’observatoire de l’image") to which we are affiliated, leads a similar fight in fields concerning even more general public.
We will always stay vigilant and grouped to be able to practise our jobs with dignity.
